Finally, A House!

I'm so happy to finally show you the house we bought. And I'm also happy to say there's not much of a back story I need to tell! So this should be a quick read!

Let's back up to June. My birthday to be exact. We were living in "purgatory" and had just gotten our "walking papers" from the landlord when Scott called me up and said, "I found our house. Meet me at this location in 20 minutes! Oh, by the way, I put an offer on it!"

My first thought was, WHAT? AN OFFER?! We hadn't even seen the house and an offer was made.

Well, after pulling up to it I could see why Scott jump at this house. The house was so brand new on the market it didn't even have a sign in the front yard.

So through it we walked. And quickly fell in love. It needed a lot of work. A LOT OF WORK. But we felt it was a great deal. Plus, it was in the school district we wanted and it was close to my family.

We finalized the offer and then went home to wait. A week later we were told our offer was accepted! WE HAD A HOUSE!!!

Here's the first walk through we had of the house. Someday when I have the time I'll post pictures of the house with all our stuff in it. But for now this will have to do.

The front view of the house.

Standing at the front door you first see the formal living room.
It has a beautiful view of the backyard and french doors to a small patio.

Still at the door to the left is the formal dining room.
I dislike the color and hope to paint it something brighter.
This is the darkest room in the house.

Master bedroom and bath. Has a beautiful garden tub, shower stall and walk-in closet.
The only room to have wood in it (Really??) but we hope to change that soon.

One of the bedrooms. Has a huge closet and a beautiful window seat! LOVE IT!!!

This is the family room. We live in this space. It's across the kitchen and has a great breakfast nook.
This is the first space that we plan to change. We're thinking wood floors to start!

My AWESOME laundry room! LOVE IT!!! It's about the size of our previous kitchen.
It's right next to the garage so it's perfect if one needs to disrobe any muddy/wet clothes!

The nook. We added a nice table and hutch set along with bamboo shades on the windows.

I'm pretty sure next to the sweet shower in the master bath, this was the selling point.
A kitchen both Scott and I could cook in. Something we had on our list!

Story time!
When we bought the house we quickly realized some work was needed. There were no lights, door knobs, closet inserts, switch plates or some switches. No mirrors, drawer pulls or window treatments in major places. At some point we realized one of the water heaters needed to be replaced only to find out that the house needed yet another water heater all together. Yes, count that, three water heaters all together. Once the offer was accepted we believe the selling realtors who were maintaing the house stopped doing so all together. A storm hit, the basement flooded and bam, was ruined. That part didn't happen until after these pictures were taken. We decided that we weren't going to make too big of a deal of it and just handle the repairs on our own. In fact, this weekend Scott is going to start demolition on the basement drywall this weekend!

The basement is large. Has a nice size bedroom and full bath. We believe it was never finished.

The large water heating is for our bathroom and the small for the kids' bath and basement.
The third water heater is located on the opposite side of the house.
Ian and Scott replaced this smaller one and installed the third all by themselves.
I'm so proud of them!

With two extra large doors and an apartment on the side we've dubbed this space the shed.
If you know anyone who needs to store a boat or camper, call us! We're seriously renting out the space!

We replaced every single door knob in this house. Mostly because most were gone.

No bathroom hardware.

Switches be gone!

It took a lot of work just to get into this house. But, it was totally worth it! There's still plenty to do but it's all personalizing. I'm not even sure what look I'm going for but I'm sure after staring at the walls this winter I'll come up with something.

Criteria met: Four bedrooms, large kitchen with separate dining room and... EIGHT acres baby!
Now we just need to find someone to mow it!
